There are 138 elephants wandering in various forests

Date:

Chhattisgarh. (23:04): For several years, Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh has grappled with the challenge of elephant disturbances. Every year, elephants from the Raigarh and Dharamjaygarh forest divisions venture out of the forests, often causing disruptions in residential areas. These encounters have led to human and elephant casualties due to conflicts between the two. To mitigate these conflicts, the Forest Department is closely monitoring elephant movements using drone cameras, aiming to inform villagers in advance and caution them.

Recently, a drone camera captured footage of a group of elephants roaming in the forest of Kudmura village in Raigarh district. Raigarh is surrounded by mountains and dense forests, harboring not only elephants but also various other wildlife species. The forest provides ample food and water, attracting elephants to camp there for many years.

Currently, there are 138 elephants spread across different ranges of Raigarh and Dharamjaygarh forest divisions. This includes 34 males, 64 females, and 40 calves. The elephants are distributed across various beats, with the highest concentration in Khamhar beat of Boro and other beats such as Hati, Potia, Koylar, and Kumarta Purva. Forest officials are vigilant, continuously monitoring elephant movements and cautioning villagers to avoid approaching the elephants or venturing into the forest areas to prevent any loss of life.
