Malappuram. (05:05): Kunjirumma, the world’s oldest woman, passed away at the age of 121 due to old age at her residence in Pookattiri near Valancherry on Saturday. Kunjirumma’s name was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest woman in the world, surpassing the record of Spain’s Maria Branyas (116).
Born on June 2, 1903, Kunjirumma did not suffer from any lifestyle-related health ailments like diabetes, blood pressure, or cholesterol. However, she used a wheelchair to move around inside her house since she was 115 years old. Her diet mainly consisted of kanji (rice porridge) and occasionally a small amount of biryani. She married Saidali at the age of 17 and received only religious education from a madrassa.
Kunjirumma gave birth to 13 children, six of whom are still alive. She was beloved by all five generations of her descendants and witnessed historic events such as the Malabar Rebellion in 1921, the Khilafat Movement, and the War of Independence during her lifetime.
