Raigarh. (09:04): Sarangarh Lok Sabha seat was established in 1977 and continued until 2008. It encompassed two assembly constituencies from Raigarh district, Sarangarh and Saria, along with Pamgarh, Malkharonda, Chandrapur Palari, and Kasdol Bhatgaon. In the inaugural election in 1977, Govindram Miri of the Janata Party emerged victorious.
Subsequently, Parasram Bhardwaj of the Indian National Congress secured the seat for six consecutive terms from 1980 to 1998. Overall, in the nine elections conducted for the Sarangarh seat, Congress MPs were elected six times, while BJP MPs won thrice.
