PM Modi took to X to announce a significant decision on Women’s Day, offering a Rs 100 discount on LPG cylinders. During the assembly elections, the affordability of LPG cylinders, with Modi emphasizing its importance in his speeches, has been a prominent topic. This decision underscores the government’s dedication to empowering women and improving their quality of life, in line with its environmental goals.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the Central government has distributed 14.17 crore free LPG cylinders nationwide. Minister of State in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameshwar Teli, disclosed this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. The recent Rs 100 discount is seen as a timely move ahead of the assembly elections.
Moreover, in a recent cabinet meeting, the subsidy on the PM Ujjwala scheme was extended for one more year, till March 31, 2025. This extension ensures that families covered under the scheme will continue to receive 12 LPG cylinders with a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder over the next year.
