Date:

Raipur. (30:03): “Bad news for liquor enthusiasts: Prices set to surge with the new excise policy in Chhattisgarh effective from April 1. Increases ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 200 per bottle expected.”

In Chhattisgarh, the Excise Department has set a revenue target of Rs 11,000 crore for the current fiscal year. To address increasing instances of public alcohol-related misconduct, the Aahat system will be reinstated, with a tender already issued for its implementation.

Expansion in liquor availability: The current rates for Ahaata are five times higher than those set seven years ago under the previous BJP government. Additionally, efforts to dismantle the country liquor syndicate include signing five to ten new contracts with suppliers. This move will introduce five to ten new liquor brands in local shops, replacing the existing two.

Alcohol consumption statistics: According to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, over 35 percent of Chhattisgarh’s population consumes alcohol. The state government aims to boost government revenue through the implementation of the new excise policy.
