The tragic incident occurred on this day in 1919, when hundreds of unarmed civilians peacefully protesting against the repressive Rowlatt Acts were brutally gunned down by British forces at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, without any warning or provocation.

“We pay homage to the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh. Their indomitable spirit will forever be etched in the memory of future generations,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X.
He added, “It was a dark chapter in our nation’s history. Their supreme sacrifice marked a pivotal moment in India’s fight for freedom.”
