In the span of 24 hours, Uttarakhand witnessed 46 incidents of forest fires, resulting in extensive damage and the forests being reduced to ashes

Uttarakhand. (24:04): As temperatures rise in Uttarakhand, 46 forest fire incidents occurred in the last 24 hours, burning 53.15 hectares of forest and causing an estimated economic loss of Rs 1,09,700. Since November 1, 2023, to April 23, 2024, a total of 477 forest fire incidents have been reported in the state, resulting in the burning of 570.07 hectares of forest and an economic loss of Rs 12,40,151.

Chief Secretary Radha Raturi conducted a review meeting on Tuesday and instructed officials to expedite measures to prevent forest fires. District Magistrates, Senior Superintendents of Police, and Forest Officers participated in the meeting via video conference, while Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar and Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu were present. The Chief Secretary emphasized the need to intensify efforts to prevent the increasing incidents of forest fires. Immediate action should be taken upon receiving information about forest fires, and public awareness campaigns should be conducted to prevent such incidents.
