Chhattisgarh. (30:04): There’s significant news from the Chhattisgarh police department concerning senior IPS officer GP Singh. He has received a major reprieve. Back in 2022, the Chhattisgarh government had filed a treason case against GP Singh, which led to his imprisonment. However, he was later granted bail by the High Court. Recently, the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has directed the resolution of GP Singh’s cases within four weeks and ordered his reinstatement. Despite facing charges in the treason case and currently being out on bail, the Union Home Ministry had enforced compulsory retirement for GP Singh in July 2023, upon the state government’s recommendation.
It’s worth mentioning that GP Singh, a 1994 batch IPS officer, was dismissed by the Union Home Ministry following actions initiated by the EOW (Economic Offenses Wing), ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) in July 2021, based on an FIR alleging disproportionate assets. Raids were conducted at various locations, including his government bungalow in Raipur and in Odisha, where incriminating documents were discovered, implicating him in alleged conspiracies against the government. He was suspended by the state government during this period.
Furthermore, based on these documents, a treason case was filed against GP Singh at the Kotwali police station in Raipur. Subsequently, a few weeks later, he was accused of blackmailing in connection with a false case at the Smriti Nagar outpost, Supela police station in Bhilai. In January 2022, GP Singh was arrested in Delhi and spent about four months in jail before being granted bail. Following the recommendation of the state government, the Union Home Ministry accepted his compulsory retirement in July 2023, after which he approached the CAT for relief.
