Four fatalities reported following a boat capsizing incident, with seven individuals successfully rescued

Date:

Srinagar. (16:04): On Tuesday morning in Batwar, Srinagar, a boat carrying passengers capsized in the Jhelum river. Four individuals lost their lives in the tragic incident, while seven, including children, were successfully rescued. Three of the survivors have been hospitalized for treatment. The boat, which used to ferry people daily from Ganderbal to Batwara, was carrying eleven passengers, including five school children.

Continuous heavy rainfall over 48 hours raised the water level of the Jhelum, causing the boat to become unbalanced and overturn. Local sailors immediately initiated a rescue operation, followed by the arrival of police and SDRF teams. Despite efforts, four fatalities occurred in the capsize, while seven were rescued.

Reports suggest that there may have been more than twelve individuals on board, including school children. Alongside the four casualties, three rescued individuals have been admitted to a hospital in Srinagar for medical attention. The boat was en route from Gandabal to Batwada in Srinagar. (agency)
