Sarangarh-Bilaigarh. (16:04): Due to rising temperatures in the summer season, there is a heightened risk of extreme heat and heatstroke among citizens, which can significantly impact their health and well-being. In response, CMHO Dr. Awadhesh Panigrahi has urged residents of the district to take necessary precautions.
With the recent weather fluctuations in Sarangarh Bilaigarh district, intense sunlight and heat have become prevalent, increasing the likelihood of heatstroke. The intense heat can lead to uncontrollable increases in body temperature, resulting in dehydration and mineral deficiencies, commonly known as heatstroke. Residents, especially those in rural areas gathering Mahua in the forests, are susceptible to dehydration due to inadequate water intake, leading to serious health complications if not treated promptly.
Dr. Awadhesh Panigrahi has ensured that community, primary, and sub-health centers, including the district hospital, are stocked with essential life-saving medicines and ORS to prevent and treat heatstroke cases. Health awareness and education regarding heatstroke symptoms and preventive measures are being disseminated through field health teams and Mitanins.
Recognizing the seriousness of heatstroke, citizens are advised to be vigilant of its symptoms, including headache, fever, dizziness, vomiting, weakness, lack of sweating despite high body temperature, excessive thirst, loss of appetite, and fainting. Precautionary measures such as covering the head and ears before going out, staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, wearing breathable cotton clothing, and seeking medical advice if symptoms occur are recommended.
In case of heatstroke, immediate first aid includes applying a cold compress to the head, lying down in a cool area, hydrating with ORS solution, and seeking medical assistance promptly. It’s essential to drink water regularly, even if not feeling thirsty, and individuals with specific medical conditions should consult a doctor before increasing fluid intake. Homemade drinks like lassi, lemon water, and buttermilk can also help in staying hydrated during hot weather.
