Breaking News: Court’s verdict in Dabholkar murder case after 11 years, life imprisonment to two, three acquitted

Pune. (11:05): The case of murder of social activist Dr Narendra Dabholkar is once again in the news. Narendra Dabholkar, who led a movement against superstition in Maharashtra, was murdered in 2013. A special court in Pune gave its verdict in this case today. Two of the five accused were found guilty. At the same time, three have been acquitted. Let us tell you, the murder case was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2014. The CBI had filed a charge sheet against the accused in 2016.

Eleven years after the murder of Dr Narendra Dabholkar, a special UAPA court in Pune sentenced two accused to life imprisonment, while acquitted three others. The court acquitted ENT surgeon Dr Virendra Singh Tawde, Mumbai lawyer Sanjeev Punalekar and his associate Vikram Bhave due to lack of evidence. The court has sentenced both the attackers, Sachin Andure and Sharad Kalaskar, to life imprisonment.

When was Narendra Dabholkar assassinated?

On August 20, 2013, social worker Dr. Narendra Dabholkar was killed by two motorcycle-riding attackers in Pune. At the time of the incident, Dabholkar left home for a morning walk. Dabholkar was attacked at 7:15 am at Omkareshwar (Maharishi Vittal Ramji Shinde) bridge. Five bullets were fired at Dabholkar. Two bullets misfired, but two bullets hit Dabholkar in the head and one in the chest. When they fell, both the attackers fled on a motorcycle parked nearby. Dabholkar died on the spot.
