Basna. (21:04): The scamster involved in a 4 crore paddy purchase scam is still absconding, despite Basna police filing an FIR against the accused 20 days ago.
The accused, involved in purchasing paddy and gunny bags from Mahasamund farmers, fled out of Chhattisgarh. The scam involves 7 accused and a total amount of Rs 4 crore 44 lakh 65 thousand 510 in maintenance and storage. Basna Police filed an FIR against these accused on court orders but has not been able to trace them yet. Officials of the Cooperative Department, including the committee manager, are involved in the scam.
The scam came to light when irregularities were found in the Pirda Cooperative Society in 2021. A shortage of 17,210 quintals of paddy and 65,467 gunny bags worth Rs 14 lakh 38 thousand 710 were discovered during the investigation. This amounts to a scam of Rs 4 crore 44 lakh 65 thousand 510 in paddy purchase and gunny bags.
Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Singh stated that the accused are being searched, and all possible locations have been investigated. However, they are still absconding.
