Raigarh. (07:04): Last night, a reckless truck driver fatally struck a cyclist, prompting villagers to block the road near Safety Fire College on Garhumaria-Pusaur road, causing disruption until late night.
Mahadev Gupta, a 52-year-old night watchman from Pobiyapara, Garhumaria, was fatally struck by a truck (bearing registration number CG 04 JC 6947) near Safety Fire College on Garhumaria-Pusaur road around 7:15 pm on Friday. Despite efforts from the police, villagers continued their protest, demanding compensation and a ban on heavy vehicle entry on the route until late night. The blockade ended after the vehicle owner provided Rs 25,000 in compensation. Villagers advocate for a ban on heavy vehicles due to the single-lane nature of Garhumaria Road, fearing further accidents. Jutmil police station in-charge Mohan Bhardhaj confirmed the arrest of the truck driver and the resolution of the immediate demands of the protesters.
