Jashpur Nagar. (17:03): Due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the Model Code of Conduct, Collector and District Magistrate Dr. Ravi Mittal has ordered arms license holders in the Jashpur district to deposit their firearms at the nearest police station for a limited period.
This measure aims to ensure fair and peaceful elections and prevent the misuse of weapons. All arms license holders within the district border area must surrender their firearms at the nearest police station or an authorized arms dealer within seven days. Exemptions may be granted by the District Committee for certain individuals, such as security guards of recognized institutions, based on their applications. Suspensions of arms licenses are effective from March 16, 2024, until the election process concludes. The police station in-charge and arms dealers will ensure proper registration and safekeeping of the deposited weapons and their return to license holders after the election process.
